About The Devani Family
INTRODUCTION BY KANTILAL VELJIBHAI DEVANI
The Devani Family website was launched as a register of descendents of Late Pujya Liladhar Gokaldas Devani and Late Pujya Jamnaben Liladhar Devani. The register was envisioned to include every individual's personal details including a current photograph and the individual's place in the Devani Family Tree.
Our parents were the first descendents of Pujya Jamna Maa and Liladhar Dada and this became the obvious starting point for collating data of the four or five generations which are around today. Liladhar Dada predeceased Jamna Maa by many years and consequently none of the presently living members had known Liladhar Dada. Dadaji's photographs may be available in someone's attic; In the interim we have reproduced his image from a photograph-within-a-photograph. We have sought and included photographs and details of each member of the current generations although it may become necessary to verify details of some of the family members who passed away many years ago.
As a second phase it was intended to gradually extend the family tree to our ancestors as far back as Devabhabha who was martyred along with his horse ridden warrior colleagues in the defense of his village folks from invading dacoits. Devabapa's Khambhi in Chitravad (about 80 KM from Rajkot) bears witness to this event. We changed our surname from Jobanputra to Devani in perpetual memory of Devabapa.
With patience, perseverance and painstaking research we have been able to piece together a fairly complete and cohesive ancestral family tree. Now that we have the basic framework in place we can continue to make amendments as more authentic and accurate information comes to hand and generally enhance the information.
One natural and welcome outcome of extending the ancestral tree was the establishment of a linkage to the Devani families in Kampala, Daressalaam, Bhanvad and Porbandar.
The web site is fun to visit. You will be amazed at the various formats in which the site presents your personal family history. You can view your own descendents tree complete with photographs as well as several generations of ancestors. You can also read an Ahnentafel Report which is a written report of your ancestors and descendents.
A handy list of Birthdates and anniversaries is also available.
The web-site has provision to put in details of parents of Devani spouses. We urge that you review all the details pertaining to yourself and your immediate family members and e-mail to me any revisions, additions, photographs or updates to make this website complete and current.
We are confident that you will enjoy reviewing and participating in updating the website.
